Exporting Data Locally from Field Book

Introduction

These instructions present the primary how-to steps for local export of data from Field Book v.5.0.7. Also included in these instructions are steps for retrieving files that have been saved locally to your device.

How to export data locally from Field Book

Export instructions

Step 1

After data collection of a field is complete, go the home screen of the Field Book app.

Select Export (Fig. 1a).

Step 2

A prompt will appear providing the options for Local or BrAPI export.

Select Local (Fig. 1a).

Step 3: Select data format options

Select Save (Fig. 1b) to apply Field Book’s default settings for formatting your export data.

After you select “Save”, options will appear (Fig. 2) for exporting the data to the Android device’s available apps.

Step 4. Select app

Select your preferred app for local export.

Options to export the data to may include Google Drive, BOX, OneDrive, or an email service that is linked to the tablet.

Your data will be saved to two locations:

  • In the app you selected

  • On the Android device under “Files” > “Images” > “photos”.

To view the data files saved to your Android device, exit Field Book and go to the device’s main screen.

Select Files”> “Documents” > “field_export(Fig. 3a, 3b).

You should see the individually exported .csv files (Fig. 3b).

To view any plot images saved to your Android device, start at your device’s main screen.

SelectFiles”> “Images” > “photos(Fig. 4).

Each photo will be labeled with the 5-digit unique plot ID number, the photo number for that plot, and a date and time stamp.
