List of Smatrix Speech Commands

Here is a handy list of Smatrix speech commands as they appear in the application’s ‘Help’ tab.

The list can also be accessed within the Smatrix app during data collection. Open a trial > Select the three vertical dots > Speech commands. Tap individual speech commands for further information on each command.

“Listen / pause”

Starts / pauses speech input.

“Louder / softer”

Speech messages will be read out louder / softer.

“Faster / slower”

Make Smatrix speak faster / slower.

“Barge in on / off”

Speech messages can / cannot be interrupted by voice command input.

“Echo on / off”

The entered value will be repeated / not be repeated.

“Position on / off”

When switching cells, any change to current trial unit or trait will be read out.

“Confirmations on / off”

Commands that fill / clear multiple cells at a time require confirmation before execution. The confirmations are skipped if this setting is off.

Navigation

You can use these commands to change and query the current position in the trial.

You can use these commands to change and query the current position in the trial.

“Where am I?”

Trial unit, trait, and value of the selected cell are read out.

“Single trait”

When switching cells, the next cell within the same trait is selected (column-wise progress).

“All traits”

When switching cells, the next cell within the same trail unit is selected (row-wise progress).

“Automatic progress on / off”

After entering a value, the next cell is automatically selected. If automatic progress is deactivated, the user has to say “Next” to switch to the next cell.

“Skipping cells on / off”

Cells already containing data are skipped. If skipping cells is deactivated, cells already containing data can be selected and the new value overwrites the old value.

“Next / previous”

The next / previous cell is selected.

“<Trial unit>”

Trial units can be selected by the combination of hierarchy level name and number. If the command does not include all hierarchy levels, the next matching trial unit is selected.

For example:

“Parcel 5, Plant 16”

“Parcel 5”

“<Trait>”

The name of the trait or, if specified, its alternative can be used to directly select the respective trait for the current trial unit.

For example:

“Phytotoxicity”

“Phyto”

“<Trial unit> <Trait>”

Combining trial unit and trait in one command can be used to select a cell directly.

For example:

“Parcel 5, Plant 16, Phytotoxicity”

“Next / previous trial unit”

Go to the next / previous trial unit.

Value Input

You can enter values, correct them, or even fill out an entire range with a value.

You can enter values, correct them, or even fill out an entire range with a value.

“<Value>”

A numerical value can be entered into the selected cell, given that value is within the valid range of the respective trait. Numbers can be spoken either as a whole number or as a sequence of digits. For decimal places only digits are accepted.

For example:

“One hundred and thirty-five”

“One Three Five”

“Zero point one five”

“<Date>”

Dates must be specified using day and month. The year is optional. If no year is specified, the current year will be used.

For example:

“April twenty-first”

“Twenty-first of April”

“Day before yesterday”

“Yesterday”

“Today”

“Tomorrow”

“Day after tomorrow”

“May First Two-thousand nineteen”

“May First Twenty nineteen”

“Unavailable”

Inserts a 'unavailable' value into the selected cell. This is possible regardless of the selected value range.

“Clear”

Clears the value of the selected cell.

“Clear <Trait>”

Clears all values for the specified trait.

For example:

“Clear Phytotoxicity”

“Clear trial unit”

Clears all values of the selected trial unit.

“Correction”

Switches to the cell of the last entered value. This command is only available immediately after entering values.

“Correction <value>”

The previously entered value is replaced by the new value. This command is only available immediately after entering values.

For example:

“Correction one point five two”

“Correction unavailable”

“Correction April Second”

“Undo”

Undo the last edit operation

“Redo”

Undo the effect of the preceding ‘undo’ operation

“Fill with <value>”

Fill the current trait for the current trail unit with this value. This includes all subsamples. Only empty cells are filled.

For example:

“Fill with 20”

“Fill <trait> with <value>”

Fill a trait: all empty cells for the mentioned trait for all trial units are filled with the given value. In subsampling mode, this applies to all subsamples for the trait. Only empty cells are filled.

For example:

“Fill yellow rust with 99”

“Fill trial unit with <value>”

All traits for the current trial unit are filled with the mentioned value. Only empty cells are filled. In subsampling mode, this applies to all subsamples.

For example:

“Fill trial unit with unavailable”

“<1..999> times <value>”

Insert the same value in a range of cells. The execution of this command considers the setting for skipping empty cells.

For example:

“50 times blue”

Subsamples

The following commands are available only in trials that are configured for subsamples.

The following commands are available only in trials that are configured for subsamples.

“Collect together / individually”

Impacts adjacent traits with the same number of subsamples. If collecting together, samples are collected in alternating fashion. Otherwise all subsamples of the current trait are collected before the subsamples of the next trait.

“Next / previous subsample”

Go to the next / previous subsample

“Subsample <number>”

Go to the designated subsample number.

For example:

“Subsample 10”
