titleOur program has multiple field experiments or multiple fields associated with a single experiment at a single farm location. How should I treat these situations when creating new entries in the locations file?

There are several ways that a user could approach this:

  1. If you are not concerned with the differences in individual fields, you can have all of your experiments reference a single macro location. (ex. New York City)

  2. If you are concerned about tracking individual fields, you can create each field as an individual location with a unique name and abbreviation (ex. New York City-Astoria, New York City-SoHo, New York City-Tribeca). This will require the user to number or create unique names associated with their real fields to then be used in for as the ‘Name’ in the file for upload to the database.

Additional examples of ‘Names’ would be Urbana-Field700, Urbana-110 SE Corner

Breeding Insight is actively working on creating the framework within Breedbase and BrAPI to have ‘Field’ as a hierarchy level under ‘Location’ for referencing experiment locations.
